TOPIC: GROWTH

Creating and managing growth… intelligently

Most business owners I meet wished they had "more sales". Yet, many have no plan for handling the growth - even if they were fortunate enough to get their wish. One sure way to create a disaster plan is to create rapid growth without a plan.

I view all businesses, regardless of industry or size, as having five (5) components:

  1. Manpower (or womanpower, if you wish).
  2. Machines - and other intangibles that make your business flow.
  3. Money.
  4. Marketing/Sales -  Creating a demand for your products or services.
  5. Management -  the actual people in leadership positions.

In turn, there are three tools that can help you maximize the use of these resources:

Synergy - The whole is greater than the sum of its parts - combining finite resources so that one plus one equals three. To illustrate, a business can get geometrically greater results by combining certain resources than using them separately

Leverage - Leverage is different than synergy in that we are not combining resources but rather applying different methodologies or tools to the resources we already have. Leverage can occur by changing the sequence of an operation and/or adding another element or tool.

Continuity - Developing a system for repeatedly finding ways to use synergy and leverage in your organization is a means to creating high levels of efficiency and effectiveness. This is the foundation of some of the most successful franchise operations.

Management Advisory Group helps businesses like yours every day. For example, we can leverage your management abilities by helping them to learn new skills or management styles. We can help you evaluate the processes or your staff. Sometimes, creating a synergy between the energy among people can help . Employees who work in harmony with common visions are very often more productive, yet managers may often fail to recognize the potential of matching up certain people (or separating them when they do not work well together).
