War Story #21
Business Type: Software Engineering Services
Challenge: Financial management and planning
Work Performed: Conducted a review of operations, developed a business plan, evaluated management team, recruited a controller, implemented human resources systems
Benefit Provided: Dramatically enhanced operational effectiveness
Long-term Result: Better able to handle growth; improved profitability

This software programming company was started by a young group of college friends. Through hard work (but little management training and experience), this company grew over five years to become a fairly significant organization (30+ people in two offices). However, it had always been weak in the area of financial management and human resources administration.

Management was concerned that it might lack the necessary tools to handle are more expanded level of operations. It also had concerns about the effectiveness of its recently hired sales and marketing manager.

In simple terms, Management Advisory Group helped to "professionalize" the management team and the systems it employed to manage the company - including development of a business plan.
